2019 Kitchen Trends

11 December 2018

You have made the big decision to have a brand new kitchen. It’s got to be the perfect fit for you and your family, it’s a big purchase and one you don’t want to repeat in a hurry unless you have a money tree in the garden.

There is so much choice in the market today, a huge range of styles, features and finishes. It isn’t as simple as it was 30 years ago when there was a limited number of options. Today you have the choice between gloss, matt, painted or real wood, classic, traditional or modern. Also there are the colour ranges which are ….endless!

Be open minded and go with what you want and what suits you, your lifestyle and home.

Open plan living has been a huge trend for some time and has become the norm for new build homes. Open plan living adds real value to a home, it allows for family members to do their own activities, yet still communicate with one another. Plan your kitchen so it flows into your living space.

Try matching kitchen cabinetry and a feature wall with the same colour, a deep blue or even charcoal works well. Black is definitely back in 2019 and will feature highly. Brass and Copper are still trending going into 2019 so add taps, handles and pendant light fittings which look great against dark colours and makes the room feel luxurious and welcoming.

By adding a wooden table or butchers block to your worktop you will create depth and interest. I personally love all the finishing touches such as industrial looking bar stools and pendant lights. Remember copper or brass again with your accessories.

Concrete is a big trend going into 2019, it certainly has the wow factor as it’s the new kid on the block … pun alert!

Open shelves also look great in kitchens and are trending hugely going into 2019. We all have favourite pieces of crockery and our go to cookery books. We are seeing a lot of herb growing in the kitchen too as we are becoming increasingly aware of what we eat and more and more of us going back to basics. I am currently embarking on my Vegan journey so herbs feature highly on my menu.

My favourite new piece of technology for the kitchen is an overhead storage system with photo LED lighting for growing herbs!

Cabinetry has evolved over the years from the traditional base and wall units which continue to be popular - people are now increasingly turning to floor to ceiling larder units which maximises space and gives you endless storage options. If you have a small kitchen you can put them either side of your cooking area and add a small island with an overhang for stools.

Worktop choices are also growing with new styles and designs being added all the time. Choose from Quartz, granite, Minerva, Dekton, wood and laminate. Something for all budgets here and it’s the finishing touch to your kitchen and really brings it altogether.
