A letter from our Director

02 March 2020

My passion is to help people transform the heart of their home into a space where they adore cooking and spending quality time with friends and family.

42 years ago, as a ten year old, I was keen to help out at my grandmother’s home. To make ends meet, she had taken in some elderly folk who needed care. All I really did was make endless cups of tea, while my family did the heavy work. During this time, I noticed that however much loving care was given, many of the people being cared for were depressed; some even lashed out in temper and I often wondered why. Years later I came to realise that these elderly people were treated like patients, when they would have much preferred to be back in their own home, taking care of themselves. Their independence was the last thing they wanted taken away and they were spending their last years in mourning for it. Why not encourage people to prepare their own food and drinks, with a life of freedom, as opposed to being a patient?

Two years ago I set up The Kitchen Bureau. An essential part of the business is to design and supply kitchens that help to make life easier for those who need it. If you have a physical impairment, or are supporting a loved one who wishes to stay as independent as possible in their home, then we would welcome the opportunity to demonstrate how our cutting edge technology and design can help to transform lives. We may even be able to help you access funding to make it all possible.
